The Star-News featured one of the first steps in the formation of the Creative District in February 2021, highlighting the survey conducted by the Idaho Policy Institute as a spearhead to the Count Yourself Creative Program.

We'd like to introduce Bev, of Quilting in the Pines 🧵 ❤️ Bev's Statement: "My passion is the process of quilt making. I love the exploring color and texture added by different fabrics. My exploration and love of fabric began when my mother taught me to sew at 10 years old. At that time I learned garment sewing and participated in 4H. Years later I taught myself to quilt and never looked back. I enjoy teaching sewing and quilting workshops." Today's spotlight is on Debbie Wood, of Cow Camp D Today's spotlight is on Debbie Wood, of Cow Camp Designs! Debbie is a born-and-raised Idaho painter who loves depicting the natural world and wildlife around us ⛰️ 🖌️ 🦌 Debbie's Statement: "My interest in art began as a child when I was drawn to the realistic rendering of the animals in Dad's hunting magazines that I also saw daily on both the ranch and the forest. I'm a native of Idaho and Meadows Valley and I've ranched all my life. The wild animals, livestock, and landscapes I paint are part of my daily life. Fewer and fewer people are connected to the land and as more people move away from the land, the vital connection and understanding is being lost. For years I drove the roads delivering cattle. Everywhere there are abandoned ranches that were at one time filled with people and animals and were a part of the force that made this country great. Today we all rely on just a few people (today's ranchers and farmers) to feed and sustain an entire nation and sometimes the entire world. I want to record the hard work and life of the ranchers and farmers of today and yesterday in hopes of restoring the appreciation they deserve and an appreciation for the wild." Join her for Movement on the Lake at the Ponderosa Center on July 12th! 🤸 Lisa's statement: "Through movement, people can be in the mindset to be creative. Teaching movement to students is not just physical fitness, but is a way each one of us can express our emotions and create space for a mindset to be creative. Learning to guide a student through a Pilates session takes creative cues that each student gets to experience. McCall Pilates was a dream that turned into reality through a community that loves movement. The studio offers aspiring students to become teachers and sharing the fundamentals of pilates creates new opportunities for the passion of movement. Today's highlighted artist is @jadestargazer_art ! Today's highlighted artist is @jadestargazer_art ! You may recognize her work from this year's @mccallwintercarnival Guide❤️❄️🎨 Jade's Statement: My art is constantly changing and flowing, inspired by my own life and those whose lives my sphere touches. I love purposeful color palettes and contrast. I use a lot of hard edge color and often hard outlines in my digital illustrations because my brain moves quickly, and this allows me to get my ideas into the physical realm before they disappear into the void. Sometimes I get a wild hair and make fairy furniture at 4 in the morning because I spent the entire sleepless night designing a chair out of sticks in my head. Drawing, painting, and crafting have always been a way of speaking without words. I often draw myself because art as an outlet is a gentle escape that allows us to heal. I think there is value in my art because I always seek to show others they’re not alone. That they can live loud and create beautiful things.
